DigInfo – movie.diginfo.tv Reviving an old idea in a new way, Lucky Cremas Company is selling their Bonmac HST 103&105 which use the syphon brewing method to make a tasty cup of coffee. The Bonmac series uses a halogen light to heat the water. As the pressure builds in the lower bowl, the water is forced into the upper container and brews the coffee. once it is removed from the heat, the bottom is left in a vacuum state and all the coffee is sucked into the lower chamber leaving the unwanted coffee grinds stuck in the filter. The whole process can brew coffee in under a minute. As the water reaches the top, it has cooled to just below boiling temperature so it doesn’t burn the coffee and maintains the light taste. Stirring is also important to the method to maintain an easy flow of water. Originally developed by a Scottish Marine engineer who used brass for his design, Bonmac has a stylish glass body and comes with 3 or 5 heaters.

“unlike the paper drip method, there are various things you can choose: the amount of water, the amount of coffee, the bean grinding method and how long you want it to brew.”

Er, well, you can do those things with a percolator, except perhaps the last(though you can take out the jug and wait before putting it back).

Does anyone else find that the Japanese take a lot of nerdish pleasure in finding the most fetishistic and expensive way of doing things, but somehow lack any actual understanding of or regard for what they’re doing?

  • snoopyflick says:

No, with a drip coffee, if you want less coffee, you have to grind finer, otherwise it will be too fast. More coffee in it will affect the flow rate too, so you must adjust the grind. Siphon coffee you can use any grind, and brew for as long as the grinds need to be brew with any amount of water. Paper drip you need the right grind for the right flow rate, for 3-4 minutes, siphon coffee can take 45 second brew, or 5 minutes.
